Plot Summary

Mario and Luigi return to an RPG! They are transported to a brand new world called Concordia and it looks like a world of electrical sockets and plugs with plenty of potty jokes! They have to figure out a way to plug the worlds back together again and save the floating islands from isolation. The brothers sail around in a ship to try and find these worlds and when they do they can use a cannon to launch themselves to these super weird islands, work together to defeat some zany bad guys, and hopefully connect the islands once completed.

Why Do I like Mario and Luigi: Brothership?

I have forever been a fan of Mario and Luigi and particularly the RPGs (role playing games). I am a handheld girlie, and I love Nintendo Switch and I have always wanted to introduce my son to an RPG. That being said, he did not get attached to this game like I hoped he would. So I have been playing! I am not finished, but so far it is just like the old games. It is silly, weird, doesn’t make much sense at all and the jokes are ridiculous but I love it! I think if you are new to the world of RPGs this is the perfect way to try. I think they are a really easy way to play a video game and I enjoy the turn-based system of fighting monsters. Going to new and creative worlds is fun and it’s always my favorite thing about a Mario game.

Creator Background:

This game was developed by Acquire and it was created by Nintendo. (Wikipedia, 2025) Acquire is known for developing games for Playstation such as the Way of the Samurai series.

Critical Evaluation for the Game

The game has solid gameplay and great puzzles. I think the biggest drawback for me is that it is very easy so far. I haven’t felt very challenged just yet, but that could still be coming. I have yet to even die once! There is a lot of potty humor in the beginning, but I think it’s fine, I think adults may find it juvenile but I think it’s the perfect amount of silliness for a teen. For a child, this game is difficult because there is a ton of reading involved as with most role-playing games. My son did not want to continue playing because he had to read a lot in order to know what to do next or where to go to complete the puzzles. For some this may be a drawback.

Creative Use for a Library Program

Have a Mario Day at the library! Play games, have some fun Mario snacks, make a Mario craft, and play some Mario and Luigi games in the Teen room!

Speed Round Game Talk

Mario and Luigi go on another adventure to a land called Concordia! The islands are disconnected and they need to somehow come together again, so Mario and Luigi decide to help and save the day by working together to beat the bad guys, collect valuable items, and save their people while also saving the people of Concordia!

Potential Challenge Issues and Defense Preparation:

Once again, I feel this is incredibly appropriate other than the light fantasy battles against cute and adorable monsters. There are some silly toilet jokes, but nothing that I can see as a potential challenge.

Reason for Inclusion:

I included this particular game in my collection because it is a recently published Mario and Luigi RPG game that is delightful. It’s fun, quirky, lots of reading involved and puzzles to solve. Mario and Luigi are still as popular as ever which makes the inner child and me incredibly giddy. I hope the franchise flourishes for a long time to come!
