Plot Summary

Demi goes to a school full of other creatures magical type of creatures, but no werewolves as most werewolves go to school together and live in Wolf City, but her family has been exiled. She has been cuffed and has never been able to shift into a werewolf before. One day, an alpha named Sawyer comes to visit her school and he recognizes her as his “mate” although this is revealed later. He must choose a mate when he graduates from his school from all the eligible she-wolves as the alpha and so he essentially plucks Demi from her magical school and brings her to Wolf City to his school so that she can be among the eligible bachelorettes. He does not disclose that he already knows that she is his mate so as not to put a target on her back. Her cuffs are removed and she is revealed to be a special wolf as she went through something incredibly traumatic while she was cuffed by vampires who sexually assaulted her which resulted in her wolf being separated from her body. Because of this her wolf is almost like a ghost wolf and is incredibly fast and dangerous while she can remain in her own mind as a human at the same time. This makes her desirable to vampires and other magical creatures, but for werewolves a dangerous anomaly that should be put down.

What do I like about this book?

I like the main characters and how much they like each other it’s adorable. (At first). It devolves quickly and Demi ends up meeting some other awesome side characters that I really enjoy (a super cool troll comes to mind) and she relies on herself and her strength which I greatly enjoy instead of relying on the alpha boy who makes a terrible mistake.

Critical Evaluation For the Book:

The fact that he dates like 50 others instead of just stating that he only likes her is kind of silly (we all know he only likes her and wants no others because she is his mate) and the fact that her literal grandfather dies such a quick death for her made me so sad. He was so incredibly sweet and then he just died my heart stopped working in that scene I hated it. I do not like unnecessary deaths!

Creative Uses for A Library Program

I think it’s paranormal week! I feel like after looking up werewolves and werewolf books there seems to be more than I could have ever imagined including a ton of graphic novels (how am I so ignorant on this subject?) but there is always room to learn and grow! I always thought that vampires were more popular, but I think that was more of a 2000s time period thing. Are they coming back? Let me know!

Speed Round Book Talk

Demi is a werewolf whose family has been banished, but she meets a cute alpha werewolf at her school who decides to unbanish her, bring her to his school, and becomes one of his 50 potential suitors to become his mate after he graduates.

Potential Challenge Issues and Defense Preparation

There aren’t any graphic scenes that I can think of, but there is an explanation of a rape scene by vampires which traumatized the main character. The alpha wolf does kill the vampires, but it’s not described in anyway. Just that he does it because it happened to his mate. Anyways, rape scenes always traumatize me, I can’t stand them in books as a plot device in anyway, but I know that it happens in real life all the time.

Reason for Inclusion:

This book was a great introduction for the whole werewolf genre. Learning about the mate-thing and the alpha wolf stuff is really fun. I see that this is very much a thing in the werewolf world and that other stories do this differently. I thought it was fun and I enjoy the fated mate stories. I want to read more!
